Guest blogger: Caroline Dohack-McCrary

I did not ride my bike today, which is a tragedy because it is so beautiful out. Luckily my friend and coworker Caroline Dohack-McCrary did commute, and filled in for me.

I bought this dress specifically for cycling. It’s the perfect combination of cute and practical. It’s a jersey knit with a keyhole back. The skirt flares just enough that I can ride comfortably without worrying about gusts of wind catching me off guard. Oh, and it has a hidden pocket — just the right size for a key, my ID and a little cash — that closes with a zipper. In other words, it’s perfect for rambles to Rocheport.

Today I will be riding to and from the downtown area twice, so I wanted something as fuss-free as possible. The dress is simple enough that I thought it could be dressed up for the office.

To ride, I paired it with some sneakers. When I got into the office, I sprayed some dry shampoo into my hair, threw on the heels and cardigan I keep at my desk and added a chunky necklace.

A coworker said she liked my eye makeup today. I did that before I left the house, so I guess the smudgy, windblown look is a good thing.

The real test, however, will be tonight, when I meet my fashion journalism students at Kaldi’s for a special assignment. If they’re nice to me, I’ll know I met my goal. If they avoid eye contact, well, I can always try again tomorrow.
